Airplane Models as a Hobby

No one knows who built the first model airplane. Models of birds, carved from wood and able to fly like gliders, have been found in ancient Egyptian tombs. Early inventors such as Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1519) built models of their concepts of "flying machines." But the modern hobby of model-airplane building did not really begin until after World War I. The war proved that the airplane was an exciting and practical way to transport people and products. The romance of air travel, together with a natural creative desire, led many people of all ages into the hobby of building miniature models of real airplanes.
